Position Overview

The Department of Pediatrics at Queen’s University at Kingston invites applications for a Clinical Academic Neonatologist appointment. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing clinical care and academic/scholarly service in the field of Neonatology. This position is to fill an existing vacancy within the University.

The Department of Pediatrics at Queen’s University in Kingston provides multidisciplinary tertiary care for Southeastern and Northern Ontario. The Department is a vibrant place for the delivery of outstanding clinical care, education, research, and advocacy for children and families. The clinical care is provided at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre, a tertiary academic center that serves the needs of communities in Southeastern and Northern Ontario. The Division of Neonatology is a sevenmember group. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 24-bed Level 3b unit, providing the highest level of neonatal care in the region and supported by multiple pediatric subspecialties. The Department has a thriving Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada-accredited residency program. The department prioritizes research excellence and has strong programs in clinical and translational research, with strong research support system and infrastructure. The Department supports the academic development of clinical faculty through specialized training, allocated academic time, access to departmental and university-based research infrastructure, and teaching development opportunities, consistent with the expectations of clinical academic appointments.

The successful incumbent will be expected to provide neonatal care in a range of settings including the in-patient setting and out-patient neonatal follow-up clinics. The role also includes participation in on-call coverage.The successful incumbent will provide clinical teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and provide regular feedback and mentorship to trainees. Research and scholarship experience are welcome, as research is a core value of the department.

Applicants need to have demonstrated the ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment through their letter of application and references. Preference will be given to applicants with experience or interest in Quality Improvement, Neonatal developmental follow-up, or Neonatal Neurocritical Care.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Applicants must also possess expertise, training, and experience in Neonatal/Perinatal medicine. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Pediatrics and Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent qualifications.
