About the NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital: The NICU at McMaster Children's Hospital is one of the largest and busiest in Canada, with >1,000 admissions annually. It offers the full breadth of neonatal care, encompassing deliveries, transport and management of surgical abnormalities. 2. Completed (or currently in Canada in a training within) a Pediatrics Residency Program and/or a Neonatology Fellowship Program (with either completion or eligibility to write the Royal College SEAP exam for neonatology)

  3. Must already have/or the ability to acquire a licence to practice in Ontario (either independent or restricted/educational) by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)

Specific Roles and Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Routine history and physical examination of patients under their care

  • Review labs and investigational results promptly

  • Preparation to present their patients on NICU clinical rounds (during daytime shifts)

  • Write clinical notes reflecting their assessment and impression

  • Admission and daily orders as needed for their patients

  • Perform clinical procedures as directed by the attending neonatologist

  • Consultation to external clinical services as discussed with the attending neonatologist

  • Document transfer summary and write new transfer orders for patients leaving the NICU

  • A night-time on call CA shift (weeknights and weekend nights) will be from 1600 – 0800

Individuals may pick up CA shifts as they become available on a first-come first-serve basis, or may provide their availability in advance. There is no minimum obligation, and a CA may pick up as many shifts as are available.

  • Current remuneration rates are:

    • $100/hour & $123/hour for daytime and night-time coverage, respectively (with an independent license from CPSO)
