Seeking Clinical Assistants (CA) in the NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital


The NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital is seeking MD (or MD-equivalent) clinicians with the requirements listed below to provide clinical service on behalf of and under the supervision of an Attending Neonatologist.

About the NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital: The NICU at McMaster Children's Hospital is one of the largest and busiest in Canada, with >1,000 admissions annually. It offers the full breadth of neonatal care, encompassing deliveries, transport and management of surgical abnormalities. We operate at a census of approximately 50-56 patients in the level 3 NICU, and 14-16 patients in our level 2 nursery.

Training and Credentials:

  1. Completed Medical School with an MD (or equivalent degree)

  2. Completed training within a Pediatrics Residency Program and/or a Neonatology Fellowship Program (with either completion or eligibility to write the Royal College SEAP exam for neonatology)

  3. Must already have/or the ability to acquire a licence (certificate of registration) to practice in Ontario (either independent or provisional) by the CPSO

Full time CAs: Yearly contract with 161-193 hours per 4-week block. Each block will consist of 1 week of daytime shifts, 4 weekend day-time shifts, and between 5-7 night calls, with 4 weeks of vacation. Shifts will be guaranteed upon signing of contract.

Part time CAs: Contracts for 0.5 FTE or higher are available. Shifts based on previously agreed upon scheduled will be guaranteed.

Ad Hoc CAs: Shifts may be available on as needed basis. No contract required and no guarantees/obligation of shift availability. Note: Ad Hoc CA shifts are available to trainees, including within a Pediatrics residency program with a Post-Graduate Certificate of Registration with Moon-lighting provisions.

Remuneration:

  • Current remuneration rates are:

    • $100/hour & $123/hour for daytime and night-time coverage, respectively (with an independent license from CPSO)

    • Full Time CAs will receive a 10% annual premium; Part Time CAs will receive a 5% premium at end of the year.
